Serving millions of fans daily, CBS Sports is the source for news on hundreds of teams and thousands of athletes. In the fantasy sports arena, fans research, analyze, and compare data at both the player and the team level. It’s a stats-driven affair.
So when CBS Interactive came to us to redesign their Fantasy News property, we saw an opportunity to create a sophisticated design hierarchy based on modules. We created over 60 unique modular designs to address specialized information needs, like player rankings, depth charts, scores-at-a-glance, and other graphical data visualizations. The system empowers the editors to elegantly display dense information alongside articles, video, advertising units and sponsored skins, while maintaining design consistency across the website.
Our grid-based design system is extensive and flexible enough to accommodate all business and user needs. And because fans predominantly use mobile and laptop devices, scannability on a small screen–both vertical and horizontal—was paramount.
Style Guide and Launch
From design we moved into an agile development phase working with CBS’s engineering team. FOUR32C built an interactive style guide to facilitate coordination among multiple teams globally, ensure pixel perfection in the final product, and establish a foundation for future development.
The CBS Fantasy Sports website launched late Summer 2015, just in time for Football season.
